ECHO
ECHO Stow Hill Community Group, was set up in May 2002 in response to the award of Communities First status by the Welsh Assembly Government. It aims to improve the quality of life in the city centre community of Stow Hill, Newport by developing relationships between the resident community, local businesses and other active groups and individuals in the area.

We will do this through the advancement of education and training, jobs and business, community safety, health and well being; through improvements to the environment and other facilities in the interests of improved conditions and quality of life for all.
A formally constituted association, Echo Stow Hill provides a focus for community activities and works to support local initiatives that will improve the quality of life and increased opportunities for all in the Stow Hill area. We are currently going through the process of gaining charitable status. If you are interested to know more then call in at the Echo office.
Apart
from its representation on the Stow Hill Partnership Board the association
also plays a liaison role with local statutory bodies, organisations in
the voluntary and charitable sectors and with elected representatives
of local and national government. We have been instrumental in negotiating
improvements to the Clifton Road Park ("the Gem"), and more
recently the "Mouse Park" in Beaufort Terrace. We successfully
campaigned for the setting up of a youth club and have arranged trips
and other social events for local pensioners. A successful Echo in Bloom
competition is organised annually, encouraging local residents and businesses
to brighten up the environment with floral hanging baskets and window
boxes and a christmas decorated windows competition has helped to brighten
winter evenings.
We produce ECHO, a quarterly newsletter about activities in the local community which is delivered to every home in the area and to local businesses. You can read some past issues of Echo to find out what has been going on in our community.
