Friendship club

Outside. The first group of Senior Citizens chosen for Stow Hill, Baneswell, Clytha Park and Lower Dock Street was established following a day trip organized by ECHO STOW HILL

ECHO FRIENDSHIP CLUB is open to all over 50 years of age who reside in the areas mentioned above.

How we all love to talk! Our Seniors say that the best part of our meetings is being able to chat to each other about any topic they want to. Seniors are enthusiastic about trying something different and enjoyed the ceramics sessions so much that they asked for other new activities to try so some of us are starting classes on Drawing and Painting at the SHARE Center soon. You're never too old to learn and have fun while you're doing it. We have such a variety of activities planned, such as 'Beautiful Babes of Ages Ago', talks about Newport History and garden birds, quizzes, Beetle Drives and even a little easy session of Line Dancing! Intrigued?

Then, if you're over 50, come along and have a bit of fun with us. ECHO Friendship Club has been invited to do an item or two for the Youth Summer Cabaret and some of our Seniors have planned a comedy mime 'The Wellie Boot Ballet'. We're not telling you what that is about – you'll have to come and see it for yourselves but we think we have more fun rehearsing it than actually performing it! Yes, we do like a laugh!

Allotment group

The community allotment is entering its second growing season. A year ago there was only a bare patch of ground but we have successfully ended up with a very well stocked allotment and produced several crops. A poly tunnel has recently been erected in favor of the greenhouse so we can prepare plants ready for this years growing season and planting now needs to take place urgently before the summer arrives.

In an attempt to get the most from our allotment produce, we have been baking homemade pies and pastries using some of the berries and apples that were in bountiful supply this autumn. Some of these treats can be sampled at the Share centres community cafe on Tuesday's.

If you've got green fingers or just interested in having a go or learning more about allotments then contact either Michelle Beddow or the Echo Committee to find out when we will up at the allotment.
