ECHO MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Elected at the the Annual General Meeting of the Echo Stow Hill Community Group held on 24th April 2006. All committee members are volunteers and help run the Echo office, organise events in the community and produce a quarterly newsletter. If you would like to get involved and can spare a few hours we are always looking for volunteers to help out.  Call the Echo office on 01633 243303 or contact us here.

Below are profiles of the current committee.

Helen Paterson (Chair)Helen Paterson

I have lived in St Woolos Road for 24 years and love the Victorian architecture; the closeness to town and the Cathedral bells ringing on Sundays. I am on the Local Partnership Board and have been with Communities 1st Stow Hill since its inception four years ago. I love writing and am on the team which produces our newsletter. It is interesting to find what fascinating lives some people lead in the midst of such a varied population. I am dedicated to improving the community spirit among residents in Baneswell and Stow Hill and I wholeheartedly believe in ECHO Stow Hill’s future and its value in the community.

Pat Wright (Secretary)

I have lived in Newport for 40 years and in Tunnel Terrace for 15 years. I helped form ECHO which is committed to making improvements for people living in the area of Stow Hill. I care greatly about education having taught for many years in Newport and currently am a governor of Saint Woolos Primary School.
My interests are: art, gardening, travel, reading and just meeting people.

Russell Couper (Treasurer)
I have lived in South Wales for almost 15 years, the last 10 being in York Place where I have settled and bought my first house. I initially moved away from Cornwall so I could study electronics at the University of Glamorgan in Pontypridd. Since moving to York Place I have developed a keen interest in the local community and have been involved with Echo since its inception 4 years ago.
I enjoy camping / touring holidays on my motorcycle throughout the summer and aim to ride into Europe several times a year.

I am also a keen cyclist and you can often spot me peddling about on the local cycleways and up into the surrounding hills

Jean Hill
I am a well established resident of the area having lived here for 34 years. My hobbies are line dancing and gardening and I’m now learning computer skills. I have been involved with ECHO on a casual basis for quite some time and more recently with the ECHO Friendship Club and I really enjoyed that, so when I was approached to join the committee, I thought Yes – I’ll give it a go!

Alex Guest
I have lived in York Place for two and a half years with my partner Lisa. Last year I invited a number of my neighbours to form a small residents group to address some concerns we were experiencing on our cul-de-sac. I found I greatly enjoyed taking a proactive role in trying to (hopefully!) change things for the better and was encouraged by a friend to become involved with Echo. I am looking forward to getting involved with issues concerning the Stow Hill area, meeting new people, and trying to help make this wonderfully diverse community a place we can feel safe in, share with others and be proud of.

Shannon Curley
